ETROPOLE

  The Etropole municipality occupies an area of 375 in the District of Sofia.It is situated upon the north slopes of the Balkan.It’s centre – the town of Etropole is situated in the beautiful hollow of the Malki Iskar River, at the foot of the Baba summit, about 80 km away from Sofia. The altitude above sea level of the Etropole Hallow is 545m.

   The Etropole municipality borders the municipalities of: Teteven, Yablanitsa, Pravets, Botevgrad, Elin Pelin and Zlatitsa.

 



   Etropole has an over 2500 – year – old history.It was founded in c.7-6 BS.It’s first settlers were Thracians.The settlement was situated at important crossroads connecting the Danube with Macedonia and Thrace, near two important passes in the Balkan Mountain.

   The location and the natural conditions of the region have favoured the economic development and commerce since the earliest times.The archaeological evidence Macedon and Greek coins,samples of Greek ceramics,luxury objects and finery,show an early eastablishment of commercial relations with remote markets – Phoenicia and Egypt.

 

   There have a nice and big monastery called “Sveta Troitsa” (Holly Trinity Monastery),also called “Varovitets”.In the monastery area there are waterfall.Etropole have a big Clock Tower.In Etropole there are many history’s monuments.
